The Japanese are pushing the envelope for future design. What we don't like now, we will eventually grow to like over time as they keep introducing obscure vehicles. We so far have learned to accept shapes like the Nissan Cube, Juke, Versa and even the GT-R. Many didn't think the GT-R looked all that nice in the beginning. Many complained it was too bulky and the raked roofline was ugly... As was said about the 370z initially. I think the raked roofline has become the signature of beauty for these cars now.
These bodylines on Nissan are not reminiscent of any other vehicle but Nissan. This is what they are trying to capture with these insane designs. But i'm sure the final outcomes will end up as better looking vehicles. Import Zero-Emissions cars in general have all had weird designs though.
