Mechanic says it sounds like the slave cylinder and if it is, the tranny won't need to be dropped so it should be a relatively quick and easy fix. Fingers crossed.
I've done some searching here on the site and this issue is not uncommon, not just for 370z but Maximas, Altys, Sentras even... anything Nissan that's manual seems to be prone to this issue.

my slave cylinder did the same thing.... you know what fixed my problem? and this is no joke.... that helper spring... the guy from canada...i actually even have a SS clutch line to make the pressure higher... but after i installed the spring... the spongey dead pedal feel went away..... i still have the SS cable if you wanna give it a try, if it is the slave cylinder completely dead though i recommend a metal one.... it will take longer to get out here but it will never break on you EVER....
