Your tires still have mold release agent on them. It's a lubricant so that the tires can actually be pulled out of the machine they're made in. The layer needs to burn off.
And yes, this thin layer will actually dramatically lower grip. It softens the exterior rubber (not in a way that increases grip).
Wait about 500 miles. That's what most tire manufacturers recommend, iirc.
