Word up. I traded in a 2008 335i convertible for a brand spanking new Z. That Bimmer was a real Bummer as Barry Weiss might say... It was in the shop four times in five months. Anybody know how much a brake job on a BMW cost? $1,500 per axle! Oil change: $150! Crappy run flat tires and endless bent rims: $1,000 per wheel.

My Z gets way more compliments than all of the cars that I have ever driven combined. The oil temps hover between 180 and 230 degrees-- big deal. My car is my daily driver, so I don't worry about an oil cooler. Plus, the brakes work great, in fact, the Z scores high versus similar sportscars on braking quickness tests.

There are some trade-offs: cramped cabin, hard to get in and out of the car, loud engine at higher rpms, road noise, crappy stereo, and no back seat. I can deal with these shortcomings, as I can pick up a used sedan anytime for cheap as a second car.
