I once change the HU for the bimmer I drove, the new HU is more than enough for the OEM speakers and the sounds is improved.

But when I replace the speakers, my friend, who runs a shop, told me unless the upgrade includes an Amp along with better speakers, otherwise there's no difference....

I still replaced the speakers w/o putting in an Amp..... and the result was.....

Keep the speakers if you are not going to put in an amp... a good HU is enough for the OEM speakers...
Most "stock" HU's only push 8 watts RMS to the stock speakers. Most aftermarket HU's push 22 watts RMS, so triple the power without having to add excess parts, especially if on a budget, or not looking to upgrade speakers as well.
