Default A/T down shifting problem

Hi! Well, the other day, I took my car out for a "spirited" ride down an old country road that follows a valley floor. The road would go from straights that would allow 100+mph, down to tight corners that would have tires screaching at 40mph. Anyway, about 75% of the way through the 42 minute trip from one side to the other, I started noticing that the car wouldn't let me down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear, using either the paddles or the gear selector, unless I was below 3700 rpm's. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this situation before, and if so, what did you do to fix it? My best guess... the transmission fluid may of been getting a little to hot! I was thinking a Stillen transmission cooler, but I rather hold onto the $300 if that wouldn't fix my problem... what's your $.02?
