I'll chime in as a HR guy / Employment law investigator:

Wrongful termination is an often misused term. Just because someone is an asshat, it doesn't make it wrongful termination. Wrongful termination is when the employer violates the law or some sort of written or implied contract between the employer and the employee.

There is no general civility law, meaning, employers get to be utter fuckin douchebags, and there isn't anything you can do about it. However, many governmental employers have progressive discipline policies to make sure people can't screw up one time and be canned for it. Normally HR won't let managers violate a progressive discipline policy if they know what is going on.

That being said, many times people will go to their local equal opportunity office and file complaints in hopes of negotiating with the employer ... you can PM me if you want to dig deeper in that.

Other than that, I would contact HR to file a complaint (unless HR is the one who contacted you), and your union, if you have one.
