BTW, I agree about the M9. I don't necessarily think its a bad pistol but there are better options. Even in the 9mm space.
I thought it was MARSOC that put the order in for the 1911s for their own use. I didn't know it would be a complete replacement of the M9 (didn't we put a giant order in for new M9s recently anyways?)

I saw a couple of articles that seem to indicate that they will only replace the worn out MARSOC M45s. Those were built for MARSOC back in the 80s by the guys at Quantico from older stock M1911s. So perhaps not an entire replacement is going to happen. Pity.
My first ship was an AE or Ammunition/Explosives. All ships have security alert teams and backup alert forces composed of ships company. Marines were the exclusive security force on Aircraft Carriers when they had 200 member Marine Detachments (MARDETS) back in the day. We had to train to respond to all kinds of threats from intruders to terrorists to enviro nutwhacks who used to like to do crazy stuff. We had fun with them.
