Yeah getting the temp has always been the sticking point on doing your own ATF fills with this car. The dealership checks the temp with Consult-III as noted in the quotes from the Service Manual. Consult-III is basically a super-expensive CAN diagnostics thing that only the dealerships have, and only it can read that trans temp number (UpRev, etc, cannot).

The trans temp it reads comes from the TCM (the electronics module in the transmission), and *probably* an IR thermometer on the pan is a decent approximation, but don't quote me on that.
