Here is my long winded storm story.
Lets start out Friday night. I get a call from a friend of mine who lives out on Kent Island to come over and have a few drinks. It is a Friday Night so I say OF COURSE! Long work week and who doesn't want to enjoy a few cold ones. So we head over to Ram's Head have a couple buckets brews eat some grub and decide to head over to Big Al's Dock Bar. I knew if I kept drinking it would be a crazy night so I really slowed down. Get over to Big Al's and there was a few good looking girls so I was content. The DJ was packing his stuff up and a friend of mine from back home in Rhode Island calls and we talk for a bit and see how things are going. Night is going pretty well. It is about 10:30 and I get a call from David our former technician here at AAM he says.
"Adam watch out there is a hell of a storm heading your way." I thought nothing of it, I'm from New England I have been through a few storms in my life this will be nothing new. So another 10 minutes goes by and I break out my phone to check the radar and see what was coming 0_0 ohhh noezzzzzz is what went threw my head. I told the other guys we gotta leave so I can TRY and make it back to Severna Park. Good thing he only lives 5 minutes down the road. Get back to his apartment and myself and my roommate BOUNCE as fast a possible. Get back on 50 west bound and no more then a half mile on the highway we are so delightfully greeted with the storm............... HAIL and 80+ MPH winds which were throwing my truck around like a doll. So I slow way down to a crawl and incing my way up the highway trying to avoid any and all road debris. I said to myself "I am not dying trying to drive back to my apartment" so I get to the last overpass before the bridge and park there and let the storm pass. It is 11pm now and all of a sudden I look up and 3 red X's on the bridge. I do some research and find out they close the bridge when it has winds higher then 50mph that are sustained. So I am basically saying to myself no worries it will pass and I can get home. Keep the A/C on in my truck and keep cool......... Winds really pick up now and a orange construction barrel thought it was a good idea to have some full frontal action with the front of my truck -__- not what I needed. Broken grille and busted front valance. If that all the damage I would sustain I am ok with that.
2 hours later still nothing. I am starting to get aggravated as I have no cell service really and getting bored of sitting in my truck.
It is now 3am and I am getting mighty pissed off as I have been sitting there for 4 hours! I decide screw this I need off this island! I start pulling up the the bridge and get there........ it is roped off -___-. Not what I was hoping for but oh well. Pull back over. A cop comes up tells me what is going on. "A truck rolled over on the east bound side and his load is all over the place and there is a electrical problem on the west bound lane after the winds hit over 100mph.........
Boy was I glad I didn't try and drive over that. So another hour goes by it is 4am and they FINALLY let us over the bridge. Sitting there for 5 hours! I can almost drive back home to RI in 5 hours lol. Get home 30 minutes later..... The exact spot where I park my truck there are 2 HUGE tree limbs that came crashing down. Good thing I was stuck on Kent Island lol. Go up to my apartment and no power........ It is a Sauna and I was sweating just thinking. It is 4:30am I am exhausted and just want to sleep. Get into my room and it was like a act of god the power came back........... for 5 minutes. It toyed with me for a half hour. 5am I just pass out after a long night, no power and it was way too hot in my apartment. Never been so happy for Monday to come around.
Didn't get power back until Saturday night about 9pm but I was up at Dave's house beating the heat.
Sorry for the long story lol
