I'm definitely in the same boat as you. Stock sport wheels, thinking of running a slightly larger diameter.
Also, nails in the sidewall are indeed pretty much doomed. It damages a lot of the interior reinforcing and things like that. Sidewall is much weaker and is prone to a lot of shear forces during cornering.
Front and rear revolutions per mile won't really be a big deal. Your fronts aren't linked to your rears, so if anything, your speedometer might run a little off (can't remember how our cars calculate speed).
