Personally, I think it's probably not a great idea. I've heard of teenagers wrecking their dads' M5's. In my opinion, start a child off with a beater, something practical and less powerful until they understand basic vehicle operation.

That said, as long as the child is properly taught the dangers involved and given an understanding of how to and how not to properly operate the vehicle within safe limits, it could work out ok.
