Decided to take the leap and plasti-dip my rims last night. It was almost 100% and high humidity here in Ohio, so not exactly the best day to try and do it.
I decided to take the car back to my parents since my dad has a large humidity and temperature controlled shop. The ideal climate for spraying was said to be 75 degrees with low humidity and wind...so thats what I went with.
The base (plain black) spray coats on pretty easy and is pretty thick stuff. We tossed on 2 coats of that, allowing 20-30 minutes of drying time for each. I was happy with just how it looked with the black base and almost tossed the wheels back on the car, BUT, I took a gamble and we started in on the silver metalizer. 3 coats were needed to give it the desired smoked/gunmetal look that I was going for, although after one coat the color was awesome! Overall it is great stuff and I am very happy with the turn out, especially for a $50 dollar job.
Now the real test will be how long it will last!
