Don't get me wrong, I think BMW earned the reliability image, but just a few notes about the current 1's and 3's. Bought my car new in 08, have 50k on it now. I've been tuned for about 45k miles. That entire time, the only thing I've needed to replace was a HPFP (fuel pump, which actually didn't go out, but I did a preventative replacement under the recall just incase at 45k). Stock boost for my N54 was 6-7psi, and I've been running 14-18psi since 5k. Proper maintenance, oil changes, valve cleaning, etc will go a long way. Enthusiasts like all of us here, for the most part, take care of our cars and usually run into minimal issues.
