I have 25-row and a purolator oil filter.
Bearing in mind that the temperature reading is the temp of oil going back in the engine (not coming out), my needle doesn't move north of 200 degrees, and I've run it pretty damn hard in 80 degree temperatures. Haven't hit 100 degree yet, but that's only a month or so away.
Aluminum/velcro block off plate is a good idea. I'm going to make one of those soon myself. Running this car in 50 degrees or less, your engine will have a hard time getting up to temp.
It is also worth noting that where I am, the climate is much cooler and more humid on average than where you are.
