Cars always depreciate faster in the first year (infact majority of that occurs the moment you sign the registration paperwork).
I always buy a year or two old when I can... the month of new car smell doesn't diminish the feeling of losing 10-15% of market value instantly.
Also an 09 loaded w 20-30 isn't even a stellar deal at 30k... I paid 32 for my 40th with 14k miles over a year ago and those cars fetch a bit of a premium.
End point is retention of value is practically a worthless topic when it comes to cars IMO... buy it because you like it and can afford it. Either that or garage it for 50 years and wait for the value to come back around (assuming they are even valuable then).
