With an air tank, the compressors will kick on any time your pressure switch shows the tank is low on air. This could be when you first turn the car on, it might be randomly, or it might not even happen at all on most trips. If your system is leak free, you won't hear the compressor(s) kick on very often. Also, if you mount them in the spare tire well and make sure they're rubber-isolated, you'll barely even hear them. Especially with some sound deadening material on the spare tire cover.

Without an air tank, you'll have to run the compressors whenever you want to raise the ride height.

Also, KW offers a system similar to this. It's called the KW HLS. I've heard good things about the KW system and the Umbrella kit. The good thing about a system like this compared to regular air suspension is that your coilovers can still do their job. Air suspension doesn't perform as well as coilovers. With this, you get both.
