BTW, I still have the Southbend clutch, but Joe provided me with a full face ceramic disk to replace the DXD street disk. The new HD-CSC has a different bearing on it as well. After finally giving it a proper bleed, everything feels great now.

nice, I had my marcel adjusted in the soutbend so hopefully I can get this working properly when I need to re-install. Do you have any pics of the new HD-CSC, I haven't heard of this? I guess I have the old version.
I disagree that compressor surge is "normal" however, at very low boost I'm sure its not as harmful, but it should not be happening. Thats the point of the BOV, different springs can be used in this particular model and I wonder if they just could not find a spring that worked well. I don't know if the throttle plates and VVEL play any role in this issue either.
