So there I was minding my own business traveling about a little over the speed limit on the 24 mile long Causeway Bridge from New Orleans to the North Shore - speed limit being 65, I'm traveling 70 in my Z. As I got on the Bridge on the south shore, I pass a Ford Escape SUV, nothing out of the ordinary, I'm traveling in one lane, and he is in the other. About 7 to 8 miles he creeps up on me, gets in front (not a cut off) and then slows down till I have to swap lanes and pass him up. I still am on cruise at 70. I don't even touch the accelerator. He speeds up, gets in front of me and slows down again, except now every time I crept up on him (still in cruise), he sped up to not let me get ahead. A Suburban now joins in, who passes me up in a hurry, only to slow down in front of me. I have to swap lanes again to keep going my speed. I passed them at cruise, only to have them speed up and pass me up again, then slow down. Still on cruise, I approach them again to pass, they start accelerating...ok, I'm fed up with this game... I down shift, give it a little gas and shoot by to about a mile ahead and then get back on cruise... they speedily catch up with me and pass me up fast, only to slow down and keep pace ahead of me...By that time we are reaching the end of the bridge, and I just slow down to the exit speed and turn to where I am going while they continue ahead... What in the heck were they trying to prove? What where they trying to accomplish? Did they prove their manliness by thwarting a 370Z and passing her up? Really? All I wanted was to enjoy the nice drive and the nice weather, much less race a..what? A Ford Escape..?? A Suburban? Wow...What possess people to behave like @$$E$$ when they meet up a Z? Do they do the same for a Porsche? A Viper? A Ferrari? I think not. It's something with the Z. Don't ask me what, but it seems it may have to do with respect... we just don't get much in the way of respect. Not that I care a flip - I love my car, I love driving it, and all those @$$E$$ can go to HEII...
