Years ago, I crossed at the Windsor/Detroit bridge 90% of the time when driving to the US, (lived closer to it). Only had a gun drawn on me once before entering the US. I learned to not reach for your friends front license plate to show the border patrol without making your intentions known!

Other than that
one time, it's been good experiences. Just don't stop or get out of your vehicle in Detroit.
Crossing at Buffalo has always been a PITA for me... I don't think they feed the border guards there. They are always grumpy for some reason.
