Default Just Finished - Viper 4704 - Remote start!

After weeks of countless hours – I finally got my 2-Way Viper 4704 remote start up and running. First I’ll say – to all of those warnings and issues people speak about auto starting a 6-speed manual 370’s are not wholly valid. Some simple relays and tapping into the sensors the car already has – and there is simply no way that car is going to start in gear.

Three things must happen for the car to start:
> Hood closed
> Safety Brake on
> Trans in neutral
If any of the three are not correct, she won’t start. Additionally there’s a smartly installed unit switch that disables the autostart so if you need to pass the car to someone else (mechanic) it’s easy enough to simply disable it to keep them from playing with it.

Additionally using a relay I have the clutch engagement the same as it would be for OEM starting. So the car functions exactly the way it was designed with the proximity key, in that the clutch needs to be fully engaged to start. But the autostart will temporarily bypass the clutch to allow it to start.

I even installed the missing remote hatchback release via the wireless pod.

Last thing I did was design a temporary proximity key bypass. So now I only need to carry one pod with me (I no longer need to carry both pods). I can autostart it; if someone gets in and tries to drive away the engine will die (and the start button is disabled). But if I press an additional AUX on my pod, it will temporarily engage the proximity key allowing me to press the start button and drive as normal. Best of all, if the car dies while driving due to a overly aggressive clutch pop, the start button still works as normal until I purposely shut down the car; at which time the proximity key ‘disappears’.

I’m working on documenting the install now.
