With a SRI system you are limited in air flow already with the placement, open the hood would create the wrong air flow (i.e. more than what would be in a real world environment).

CAI system, bumper off might be closer to real world, but I have not done any work with those systems...yet.
Aside from heat dissipation, that might not necessarily be true. There are intake ducts in place for the stock air boxes that will help pump air into the engine bay.
