I just contacted Nissan regarding this, having just upgraded my HFC/CBE and have a K&N Typhoon Intake. I told the Service Manager whom I trust that I just upgraded my exhaust, but its nothing more than what a NISMO would ordinarily be. He stated emphatically that there is no need for a Tune. Again the pharse is " NO NEED " for a tune. You won't burn a valve or damage your engine simply because of a simple Intake and exhaust upgrade. Unless you go Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous or anything beyond of what a VQ37VHR is asked to do by the factory, the car should be fine. If you track the car and push it to it's limits, then it's a whole different ball game, and you may want to tune because you are looking at optimal power, not just a fun ride.... You can still tune it if you want regardless, but herein lies the risk. You tune it, something happens, Nissan can claim you tampered with the programming on the computer and hence your warranty is void.
Now it's up to each individual to make up his/her mind what they want to do. Upgrade hell? Here it is... Decision making time...
