This is getting a bit off-topic, but the Solstice/Sky failed because it was a parts bin car. It wasn't a design directive. Bob Lutz just threw GM parts into a roadster. It was less practical than the Miata. With the top down, you had no storage. And it wasn't a significantly better car.

The Miata's sales have slowed over the years, but it has had a long run of success.
