Texas Police Officer: No, but I'm going to have to ask you for your license and registration.

370Z Driver: I'm sorry officer but if I'm not in violation of any state or local statutes, and you have no probable cause, I don't have to show you anything. I'll be on my way now. Have a nice day, sir.

Same thing goes for searching the inside of your car, no probable cause, say no! Believe it or not police officers are allowed to lie to get their way. This has been proven many times over from people who know the law more than the officers recording them on video. The funniest ones are lawyers in a protest, they damn near get away with anything!
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

Authority on Texas law, are you?

The current situation is that it is a violation to not display a front plate. The problem is there are no prescribed penalties for the offense.

Police officers enforce the laws, the court system decides what penalty is appropriate based on the law drafted by the Legislature.

Bottomline - you can decide to not run a front plate and ultimately, you probably won't be fined for it. That still doesn't save you from the time and inconvenience dealing with it.

As I told several people this weekend, I'm not interested in being a test case. I bought a tow hook bracket from gominigo. I'll remove the plate for meets (sometimes), but still run the risk of getting a ticket. If I get nailed, I'll deal with it.
