Yeah, I mean i like hip-hop rap because of its beats, its music. The lyrics nowadays are starting to be a-b-c nursery rhymes, talking about money, hos, cars, clothes. Nothing wrong with it, but it makes the music shallow, which is why I can see many people hate it. But then again I don't listen to rap to inspire to be one of them, I like it because to me...its pleases my ears. As a drummer I love the 808's and bass in rap and hiphop songs.

Now music like the one posted by the Piano Guys I can respect because it is true musical talent. Not many people can play an instrument let alone play something with passion and heart. I guess it doesn't take much skill to rap, however, it does take skills to produce beats (which I do as well) and lyrical rappers such as Lupe Fiasco still do exist.

At the end of the day do I want to be listening to the Piano guys on my way to work, the gym, or in the car? No, much rather be bumping some Drake or Lil Wayne as it sets the mood for me. Its all personal preference, but like you mentioned just because I listen to rap doesn't mean I don't appreciate other good-talented music when I hear it.
