The torque curve is so close to flat that being in the lower gear as long as possible is always best.
For the 7AT, at 125MPH in 4th at 7500 you drop to 5307 in 5th but your transmission torque drops from 863 to 705 even though you are at near peak torque in 5th.
Lower gearing always wins unless your torque curve has a large small peak. It's why the NSX is very quick even though it doesn't feel like it.
