AAM Short Tails Installed
I installed these myself this week and thought I'd post a few details for those considering them.
The install itself couldn't have been easier. I had them changed out in less than an hour without even jacking the car up. Fitment is pretty good. They may stick out 1/4" less than the stock tips.
On to the sound. On cruise control @ 60mph in 6th I'm at 2300 rpm. They are almost whisper quiet with no drone. Of course, if you go up any kind of hill and the engine lugs just a little, they do start to drone in the cabin a little then. Cold starts in the morning are INSNANE. Enough to wake up the house when I crank up in the garage. Really nice sound.
Downshifts and coasting down in gear sound really good.
Now for the part that makes me not sure if I like them...
Between 3500 and 4000 rpm, they are ear splitting loud in the cabin. There is a frequency that resonates in the cabin with the windows up, and I mean it is crazy loud. With windows down, its not as bad but definitely still loud in that rpm range under moderate to full power.
In the cabin it almost sounds like a ricer with those big cans on a tiny engine. Thats what I am unsure about. From all the online vids, it doesn't sound like that from the outside, which is good cause I don't like that sound. I guess I need to get someone to drive it for me as I stand beside the road and listen. Any volunteers?
Oh and +1 to Adam at AAM for the quick responses and nice the370.com forum member discount.
