After missing Fedex lady again yesterday, I left a voicemail asking her if we could keep in contact via email.

Got this this morning:

I wanted to discuss this claim with you as we have different options we can look into.

Should we proceed with full payment of the shipment, we will need to recuperate the wheels we have delivered to you.

Would prefer to keep the wheels and have them repaired, although noone was able to match the actual finish of these wheels?

The initial number I claimed included the cost of the tires on the wheels, but, to cut costs & expedite the claim, with your OK, I'd remove the tires & send only the wheels back to Fedex.

I was hoping I'd be able to keep the wheels & the money, but I suppose that's a bit unrealistic. It's progress, though.
