Technically you can use R2/L2 for gas/brake if you want digital control. But that being said, I totally agree that the 360 controller rocks the socks off the PS3. THAT being said, I don't use controllers on racing games. Wheel FTW.
I am waiting to see how well the Slim does performance-wise while playing Bluray. I am not in the market for it, seeing as I already have the 80gig backwards compatible unit, but for some reason I don't feel like it will have 100% of the processing power that the big brother does...Maybe I'll be wrong.
And seriously, the XBOX 360 is not a God System. It is needed by an avid gamer just as much as the PS3 and the PC.
