i went down thursday to join the rest of the crew at the Gooding & Company auction at Amelia Island, FL. they had already been there for a week getting set up. they asked me to come down and document the sale of the collection. had a great weekend, made a few contacts that may prove exciting. overall, we had a great time and the sale went well, totalling $16.1mil for all the cars together. i've got a picture of the final sale price of each car in the collection in the album if you are interested. oh, and racing legend Derek Bell joined us too!
album:
Gooding & Co Amelia Island Auction - March '12 - JPMcG Photography
fav's:
1. the collection had it's own section off to itself
2.
3. a view from above of all the cars
4. this shot by itself made my trip worth it, Derek Bell with 962-103, a car he co-drove to amazing sucess
5. the auction begins... these guys did a great job, the guy on the right was hilarious
6. Mr. Bell came up on stage and talked about the racing legacy the 962's had
7. this one went for a little more than they anticipated
8. the 917/30 sold for it's appraised value to Jerry Seinfeld (he also bought the white 935 martini car)
after it was all over, we went to the resort bar and sat around drinking and talking with Mr. Bell for hours on end. what an amazing guy to talk to. i was blown away with his racing knowledge and just all around class. hearing him talk about Al Holbert and other guys he raced with was a real treat.
