Look, if you're not throwing a CEL code, then the OBD-II will probably not pick it up. If it does pick it up, you will be given something that says you have to have it removed and re-tested by some date, which will give you at least 2 weeks or a month, and even then you can request an extension. It is at that point when you might consider palming a 50. But it may pass emissions without all that, as long as the car isn't throwing a code.
Also, you can get aftermarket code readers and scan it yourself before driving up.
