You can feel this just driving on the highway or at regular speeds. if you keep your hand on the shifter when releasing the gas you feel the entire shift knob move a little. I don't know if it goes side to side which might damage a gated shifter but it definitely goes front to back. Would this really be that big of an issue? I've driven a few cars with gated shifters and they really do have a different feel to them but still scrape the edges of the gate during shifts
