If you're going to use your rifle mostly for shooting between 100-400 yards, a magnfier on an RDS is not a good solution. Far better off going with a 4x magnified optic. Magnifiers are a half-assed bandaid to try to make an RDS do something it's not designed to do well.
Also, a lot of it also has to do with the quality of the RDS itself. The nature of the reticle makes a difference, for example. An Eotech reticle with 65MOA ring is only a fair long range choice. An Aimpoint with a 2MOA red dot is even worse, and a 4MOA dot like on the Aimpoint T-1 is almost unusable with a magnifier. And those are just the high quality optics. When we start talking the fleet of cheap Chinese knockoffs like Primary Arms sells, that can be a real exercise in frustration, especially with a magnifier.
