NISSAN Australia and Kelly Brothers Racing announced yesterday that Nissan will join the V8Spercar grid in 2013 with the eligibility of "Car of the Future" chassis.
Whilst not announced, it is beleived that the announcement is tied to the launch of the Infinity brand in Australia in 3Q 2012.
The selection of body-shell is yet to be confirmed, but the rules call for a 4-door sedan with specified wheel base and overall length.
Likely engine power will be the VQ-series V8 sourced from the NISSAN World Sports Car GT1 series in which the R35 GTR competes as a Rear Wheel Drive coupe, although the R35 shell is unlikely to be eligible for V8Supercars.
Nissan's last entry in Australian motorsport was in the Group A days in the early 90's when Nissan's R32 GTR in Group A specification completely dominated touring car competition.
V8 Supercars are due to race in the continental US in 2013 and beyond.
