I think after I get back from my business trip I will go to Bowers Tactical and weight all my buffers since none of them have any markings on them (weird, I have seen the "H" stamp on others). After that I will probably buy a couple different weights and take this baby to the range. If the buffer isn't stamped, it's probably a carbine buffer. Replace for sure, IMHO, especially since it's likely that that lighter buffer is banging the end of the receiver extension and the BCG is taking more of a beating than it needs to. They're only about $20-$25. No need to do anything with the spring...carbine spring is fine. Some weaker ammo may not cycle an H2 buffer, but I shoot almost entirely PMC Bronze and have no problem. There are a lot of variations of gas port size, gas length, and BCG mass that all go into a mfgr's decision as to what buffer to include, and a carbine buffer is just easier because it's less likely that they'll get complaints back about short-stroking, not to mention that a carbine buffer is a lot cheaper.
