Speaking of the key fob battery... The Z is the first car I've owned that has keyless ignition. Would it be expected that the keyfobs will chew through batteries faster than a keyed system? Isn't the keyfob always using some small amount of power trying to connect to the car? Or is that not how it works?

Could be the reason why the OP is upset about the battery life.
