Engine oil and filters and air filters get changed 4 times a yr. if the car or vehicle is driven 12,OOO anually

As long as you can afford oil and air filters and mobil 1 is quite cheap protection for your car and the air/oil quality are the 2 lifes blood of your engine.

Would say its wrong for a soldier to clean their M4 daily, even if they don't shoot it.
