yah, you can fit them and will work hell of a lot better than your RE050A's in snow... but they will make your car's front ride height shorter (closer to ground due to thinner side wall by 8mm)

245/40 = 98mm
225/40 = 90mm

the fronts are pretty narrow so you'd want to watch out for curbing your wheels as well. tires will be very stretched.
The rears are fine other than for watching out for curbs as well.

might want to just get new front pair in the correct size?

also, make sure you go to a shop that has a no-touch mounter. otherwise scuff and gauging wheel damage will happen.
