As you've described, power shifting is a method of quicker manual transmission shifts executed by maintaining your throttle position in the engine's peak power band while depressing the clutch, shifting and then releasing the clutch (ie as opposed to lifting off the throttle during the shifting). While this may shave a few tenths of a second off your times, it will also turn your clutch into smoke faster as well.

Is power shifting 'better' than a normal shift with throttle lift? If you're going to the grocery store, no. If you're trying to set a land speed record for the 1/4 mile, perhaps.
