Could be, I'm also a fan of changing the oil hot from a drive, mostly so I can get a fresh hot sample for Blackstone. I typically pull the undercover while the car is still running, get the pan in place, etc. Then from shutting off the engine to having oil pouring out of the drain plug is maybe ~3 minutes. Then I get my sample from the hot stream, and once that dies to a trickle I start working on the filter.
But on the other hand, I haven't had any problem removing any of the K&N filters I installed myself hot, it was only the initial factory one that was such a bitch to loosen.
Another random oil-change related update: I installed K&N's HP-1010 during my oil change this evening, and it works fine. This is identical to the usually-recommended HP-1008, but it's longer (so you get more filter surface area from it). It fits with plenty of clearance even on top of Mocal's SP1FT thermostatic sandwich plate (for an oil cooler).
