The usual cause of the "key" symbol in the dash is that the battery in the key fob (assuming that the US market cars have the same bluetooth key fob as those of us in the rest of the world) is losing voltage and needs to be replaced.

The key fob also has a key in it, which you can use to gain access to the car and start it if the fob battery dies and it loses bluetooth connectivity with the car.

My car is now ~ 3 years old and has covered 60,000kms and I've had to replace the battery just before Xmas
