Yup when I lived in brooklyn... I had my 93 rx7 tt and it was modded to the core. I had to take drives upstate to have a little fun or shoot out to PA. You can't have fun in jersey either cops were on the prowl out there and more racist than nypd. So I would go upstate to drive on the mountain roads of new paltz or bear mountain etc. For drag racing you go to englishtown nj or there are quite a few tracks in PA. In other words, car fun is few and far between in NY.
Nyc traffic is just horrid. Blocks are short and lights change frequently. It was the main reason I got rid of my mazda. (Which I now regret.) Owning a car in nyc is pointless imho. If you parallel park it,(if you can find a parking?)It gets dinged weekly and alternate side of the street parking is a b1*ch... If you garage it? Your paying $400 a month or better for a safe and secure spot. Potholes destroy your suspension. Insurance is astronomically priced even for good drivers. You won't get a good deal on isurance in nyc's 5 boroughs unless youre in your mid 40's. With all the complaints new yorkers have about the subway system. Once you lose it and live in a primitive state as far as water sewage, transportation and access to vast information. You begin to apprecate things like subways, water that comes out of your fawcet with a cloud of fading flouride and libraries the size of a texas middle school.
The only areas where its mildly feasible to own a car is Staten Island jamaica/hollis/st. Albans queens areas and the North Bronx. Brooklyn, manhattan, half of queens and the southern half of the bronx is murder on cars.
