Energy prices aren't going anywhere but up in the long run and it will get to the point where 99% of the people are priced out of having the option to drive a gas-powered car. Obviously this won't happen overnight, but 30 years from now the world is definitely going to look much, much different. One way or another we'll have to adapt.
You won't be saying that when this country can finally become energy independent. When that era comes, gas prices will drop drastically. There are too many factors at play to know for all certainty that combustion engines are doomed.
