Could the stock exhaust and intake be so restrictive that the engine harshness is a result of it being so strained at high RPMs... kind of like breathing through a straw while running and trying to poop while extremely constipated at the same time? Sorry for the analogy, but it's the best I could come up with.

Given the gains we have seen with intake/exhaust, it may be the case.
