The germans still havent caught on about how to implement reliable electrical parts. In my year and a half of owning my 06 M3, I was cruising down the road and POOF!! 3 coil packs went out. I replaced them. Then two months later, the other 3 went out. When a company says you have to replace them after 40,000 miles, replace the rear diff fluid every 30,000 miles, replace the bushings after 50,000 miles, yada yada yada, its just not worth it. The newer beamers havent had that many issues, but then again, back in 01 when the E46 M3 first came out, they didnt have any issues with them until about 3 years later when people started putting on some miles and rod bearings started going....then vanos issues .

Makes me so happy I bought a car that doesnt have any of these issuese..... yet

edit: dont get me started on my 06 MB clk500......it made the M3 look like a honda civic
