Zaino makes a glass polish that is somewhat effective when applied with a buffer. It won't take them out 100% but it does seem to at least knock down the sharp edges making them less noticeable. Pretty much the same concept as polishing paint. They claim you can use it by hand but I've never had any results that way - always took a RO with a pretty aggressive pad.
My Mercedes was real bad about pitting, but fortunately soft enough that it had to be replaced every couple of years after getting cracked. The Zaino glass polish worked in between replacements.
