If you buy the hatch version of the sti? Maybe? But the sedan version of the Sti and evo completely suck as a family hauler. The evo build quality is awful for anything more than just having lots of fun in the car... I mean, mustang and camaro run about equal in overall usability to these cars.
I would follow the advice of other members on here or have you considered no money down low cost leasing of an altima. Residual value is so high you won't pay any to very little depreciation. You can pay as little as $200 a month for 39 mo. Then switch up to something new later? That way by the time you switch up, your Z is paid off and you can move on to the next family hauler with more room to breathe.
As far as the Z goes... GO FI. I drove a stage II gtm g37s before and the vq37vhr is ridiculous. None of the current v8's are anywhere near as fun with FI as a vq. These engines were meant to be turbo'd. I will guarantee you anyone who FI's there Z or G will fall in love all over again and will never part with it.

how does the sti sedan suck as family hauler?
OP-you will get a very different driving experience in the cars you mentioned, both vs the z and vs each other. I recommend trying to get some seat time (though the insurance crap makes it tough for the STI).
I bought a 2011 WRX to be my daily beater, but I pretty quickly wound up not taking the Z out much anymore...the boost is a lot of fun, and I prefer the steering feel, etc, of the subaru, not to mention the engine smoothness.
That said, the interior is notably cheaper than that of the Z. Much more hard plastic. Better than the EVO by far, but nowhere near the Z's level.
I do agree that a 2 door is not really a good call, unless the kid is old enough to hop in the back by him/herself.
