I had that problem too when I bought the car. To fix it and not hear the clunk make sure when you park your car to follow these steps.

Starting from D or R, shift into N, apply e-brake, make sure e-brake is actually working and the car is not rolling, then shift into P.

Next time you start your car and put it in gear, there will be no clunk. This is because the e-brake is actually keeping your car still (from slightly moving forward or reverse) and there is no stress being put on the transmission when you put it in park.
