I ran through three sets of those R888s when it first came out based on those stupid reviews. I have tried high and low pressure (the article is right about how they love high pressure), they just weren't as fast as the RA1s once you put a few heat cycles on them. There is a reason why Spec Miata guys hate them and Toyo brought back the RA1 in limited sizes due to the grieve they were getting from the drivers. Sure they might be a little faster new, but they do not hold up throughout the life of the tire. Of course at their worst, they are still better than any street tires you buy. From an R comp perspective, I just think they are garbage.

If they fell off as much as cossie indicates we would see huge difference in lap times just over a weekend but we dont see that. In fact cars show up several weekends at same tracks without huge drop in times. On an average one and half to 2 minute course we see times on R 888s about 2 seconds off Hoosier R6 (ones of the fastest DOT R tires) Biggest thing with r888 is that they work better higher pressures than other dot r tires.
I don't think your car will drive like poop. Just won't perform quite as good as if you had a 245 up front.
Here is some very experienced advise from racing tire shop that is located on Infineon Raceway. They support many cars and have data on the R888 that goes beyond opinion. Very interesting notes. Especially about limiting rear camber with these tires compared with RA 1.

My biggest complaint about R888 is that they are noisest tire I have ever driven. They sound like truck tires. The Z tends to transmit sound right into the cabin too.
